December was a month of giving at Midtown and we started the way we meant to go on with a trip to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter to give toys to the animals in their care.

In advance of our trip, at circle time we practiced walking in a line, holding a rope to stay together, and we talked about the tradition of giving to others during the holiday season. It was a long walk for little legs, but everyone did great. At the shelter, we met cats, dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs. We are so grateful to the SCCAS for all of the hard work they do for our community and for letting us come and visit.

The class worked hard throughout December on holiday crafts to give to their families at our annual holiday party. We made cards, potato stamp decorated bags, beeswax candles and special lavender bath salts. As part of our holiday focus we read books about Hannukah and discussed the menorah and some of the traditions of Hanukkah.

Our holiday potluck party was a wonderful celebration of the festive season – we sang ‘Feliz Navidad’ in Spanish, held candles during ‘This Little Light of Mine’ and shook sleigh bells to ‘Jingle Bells’. All the parents joined in with the singing and as the sun set to close off our time at school in 2022 it felt very special to all be together.

January is already a busy month at school – so busy in fact, that you are receiving this newsletter more than half way through it!

As we look towards summer and our graduating children moving on to their new schools we will be enrolling – so please get in touch if you are interested in your child joining us or if you know someone who might be looking for a preschool in the coming months.
